State law requires that students be in attendance at least 90% of the days the class is offered (excused and unexcused absences combined). Please refer to the CISD Secondary Student Handbook and the CHS Handbook Supplement for more complete information about the policies listed here.
You may contact us to let us know a student will be absent for the day, if a student needs to be released before the end of school, and for daily attendance information.
If your student is absent from school, please send a note with the following information.
- Student Name and ID number
- Date of absence
- Reason for absence
- Parent name, signature AND phone number
If your student must arrive late to school, please send a note or come inside to the attendance office to sign the student in.
Proper ID is required to pick up any student or to inquire about a student’s attendance record. If you call, please understand that we need to ask a few questions to make sure you are the guardian of the student. We recommend that you know your child’s student ID number.
Please email, call or send a note to, the attendance office and give the following information: student’s name, date(s) of absence, reason for the absence, parent/guardian name/signature, and contact phone numbers.
Please remind your student to use the clinic if he or she is not feeling well. Students in the clinic are not considered absent. In the event of a doctor’s appointment, please provide a note from health care provider.
The Health Care Provider form allows the Attendance Office to change an absence to a present if the child has been present for part of the day. A doctor’s note must also be included. Please check your student in and out through the attendance office. This provides a record of when the student leaves for the appointment or returns, and confirms the student was present for part of the day.
The Religious Holy Day form allows the Attendance Office to change the unexcused absence into a present for purposes of observing the student’s religious holiday. A religious holy day is a recognized date for religious purposes. Religious holy days do not include retreats, conferences, and conventions. A parent note or signature on the form is required.
The Student Pick-Up Information Update form can only be filled out by the student’s guardian in the presence of the Attendance Clerk. Proper identification is required. This form allows someone other than the guardian to pick up a student from school. It remains in force until the guardian changes it in writing.
